IPO FAQs
What is the IPO timeline in India?
Under SEBI’s T+3 rule, an IPO is open for subscription for at least three working days. The basis of allotment is finalised on T+1 (T = issue closing day), refunds are initiated and shares credited to demat accounts on T+2, and the shares list on NSE/BSE on T+3.
How do I apply for an IPO?
Apply through your broker’s app using UPI, or through net banking via ASBA (Application Supported by Blocked Amount). The bid amount is only blocked in your bank account and is debited if shares are allotted; otherwise the block is released.
What is the difference between Mainboard and SME IPOs?
Mainboard IPOs list on the main NSE and BSE platforms. SME IPOs list on the NSE Emerge or BSE SME platforms, are usually much smaller, have larger minimum application sizes (at least two lots for individual investors) and carry higher liquidity risk.
What is the maximum a retail investor can apply for?
In a mainboard IPO, a retail individual investor (RII) can apply for up to ₹2 lakh. Applications between ₹2 lakh and ₹10 lakh fall in the small NII (S-HNI) category, and above ₹10 lakh in the big NII (B-HNI) category.
What is IPO GMP?
Grey market premium (GMP) is the unofficial premium at which IPO shares trade before listing. It is not regulated, can change quickly, and is not a reliable predictor of listing price — use it only as a sentiment indicator.
