One of India's leading carmakers has filed its Draft Red Herring Prospectus (DRHP) with the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) for a proposed initial public offering that bankers estimate could raise around ₹25,000 crore — placing it among the largest public issues ever seen on Indian exchanges.
An offer-for-sale structure
According to the draft papers, the issue is structured primarily as an offer for sale by the parent company, meaning proceeds will go to the selling shareholder rather than into the company. The listing is nevertheless expected to deepen the auto sector's weight on the NSE and BSE and give Indian investors direct access to one of the country's best-known passenger vehicle franchises.
Analysts say the IPO will be a key test of depth for the domestic primary market, which has absorbed a heavy pipeline of issues over the past two years on the back of strong retail and institutional participation.
What investors should watch
Prospective investors should track the final price band, the split between institutional, non-institutional and retail quotas, and grey market premium trends closer to the issue date. Valuation comparisons with listed auto peers will be central to the subscription decision.
The IPO timeline — including anchor book, subscription window and listing date — will be confirmed once SEBI clears the draft papers. TickerBuzz will track each stage as it develops.
